Shot with Hayley again tonight, she was more relaxed this time, as she knew what to expect, and fell right into the roll of model superbly.

What ya think ???

Wow.

I have been working on convention/competition prints this week for other photographers and this breaks lots of those rules but the main ingredient they ask for is definitely in abundance here,

Fabulous Steve. All are great but for some reason I favor the 2nd one most. She's is such a beautiful model. These photos show sexy, confident, innocence, not-so-innocent, daring........

Sorry if you don't want change, I've been doing it to too many images this week! I had to show the light as I've been told it should be. It's a subtle difference...better, worse or not noticeable?

Hi Linda, no I dont mind, in fact I favour hints like this, but can you please tell me what adjustments you made to them??? I shot all in RAW anyway. Many thanks for the comments, Hayley gets more and more confident each time we work together, and we are looking forward to working again in a few weeks time, where I am sure I will finally nail the lighting and get it perfect without the need to proces afterwards. Thanks for the rle breaking, I have never been one for sticking to the rules anyway, specially in portrai stuff.

Practice makes perfect so they say.

Mrs Swampy: Thanks, as above Hayley is a great family friend, and now has so many prints on her wall she feels vain, but loves them, didnt believe me when I told her she would look great in print.

May thanks again for your confidence boosting comments.

The rules I 'enforced' on the image I worked on was that the brightest spot is where you'll look so you want her face to be the brightest.

The other rule was body parts in front that are lighter appear larger than what they really are and who wants large legs? <g> I also darkened her hands because they caught so much light they were distracting from her lovely and dynamic face.

Many photographers pose to carefully avoid this, others turn them so the illusion is lessened and others break the rules but work the lights to get the bulk of it on the face.

Me? I need a model to work on to see what I can pull off without post processing!!!!!!!!

Steve,

Nice work. Linda has done an excellent job of post on the image. All of the pro photog associations (I can't abbreviate that one!) follow pretty structured ideas for print presentation and if you enter such things it is perfect to have a lab that understands those details. As we've presented to Melody, doing as much of it as possible with lighting control puts you WAY ahead of everyone else. You can have straight prints made at the lab, mount and finish them, and enter winners without a lot of post processing.

You're very fortunate to have a lovely model to work with and are capturing excellent images.

As an aside ...
I recently attended a Robert Burns dinner. Scotch, pipers, scotch, haggis, scotch, FOOD, scotch, celtic dancers, scotch, desert, scotch, pipers, scotch. I was the other musical entertainment from the pipers. (Did I mention scotch?)

It seemed Robert Burns is a somewhat controversial figure but a grand time (scotch) was had by all.

Thanks folks, I normally take them to print after I show them here anyway, and my lab guyis pretty good, I normally also ask him to make no modifications, and it always does state NNNN on back of the print so I am normally happy with them.

As I am self taught, I just practice away until I get the results I am happy with. One thing I am still prcticing is getting skin tones as they are, and generally I am sot on, or what I think is spot on until Linda points out, there was a little bit off there, which I amhappy to have her pointout anyway.

So, on that nte, I have attached a couple more from last nights shoot, done today when I should have been working ...

Steve,

I think your lighting for this lovely young lady works very well. It's soft and brings out a nice soft quality in her portrait. All the poses are really very good.

Nice portraits and model. One thing that distracts the image is the skirting board in some of the shots. Easy enough to get rid of as you have gone for the high key backround.
