Is there a model of the Metz line of strobes that will work with the D2X? Looking for a small one to carry around for fill flash needs.

For the Nikon D2X you need the Metz SCA 3402 M6. Anything else won't work properly.
I use the Metz 76MZ5 digital with that SCA and the D2X. Works well, no problems yet.
You probably need something smaller though (the 76 is the top-model Metz, a big potato-masher-type of flash).
According to the Metz site ( http://www.metz.de/en/photo_electronics/das_ist_mecablitz.138.html )
these flashunits are preferred with the D2X:
mecablitz 76 MZ-5 digital
mecablitz 45 CL-4 digital
mecablitz 54 MZ-4i
Non of these are really small.
The smallest flash possible with the D2X is the 44 MZ-2:

(fill in the appropriate data)

Theo,
Thank you. Looks like I will lug around the SB600 for fill flash.
