Hi Gang,

I bought a slew of CR123's when I had my Fuji S1 from Botach for about $1 each. Now that I have an S2, I still use the CR123's.

The dealer who sold me my S2 told me I was "kinda wasting" my money on the CR123's as the S2 works fine on just the AA's (with the exception of the popup flash, of course). I have various posts and people seem to happy with just the AA's in their S2's.

My question: Other than the AA's depleting their charge faster, have any of you encountered any problems just using the AA's?

THANKS!

I'm using AA's only and a external flash unit. It is true the AA life is significantly shorter, but the CR123's are used for the metering and driving the lenses AF as well, so the AA's have to take all that.

I'm using 1800 NImH (Energizer) and I can do 400+ shots with a Nikkor 85 AF-D and a 1 GB transcend card without changing batteries. No problems for that.

Why not try buying a Nikon MB16 batter pack for the S2 .

See other threads in this forum section about using this with the S2.
I 've been using it for nearly a year now and I wouldn't use anything else now for my land based shooting.
Except when I scubadive and am shooting u/w with the camera in my Ikelite housing where I have to use CR123s I always use the MB16.
I have bought some rechargeable CR123s as a substitute as I had to pay $15/£10 for each (yes each) CR123 in the Seychelles.
