HI,

I have been noticing that my new S2pro doesn't seem to be consistent when it comes to metering.
Both the shots were at 400ISO and the camera was set to P with jpeg maximum. The lion was reading 1/1000 sec at 6.3 and the lioness was reading 1/250 at 6.3.
The exif data say this and also the lion was 1/1024 at 5.3 and the lioness was at 1/256 at 5.3.
What was the actual meter reading?
Has anyone else had a problem.
The metering was full matrix.

Lioness.

I have also had softness and flash problems the same as in the recent posts and have also has drop outs on the CCd so I am sending the Camera back to the place I bought it from for hopefully a replacement.

Full matrix will do this to you. Looking at the two pictures, they're totally different, even though they are the "same" subject. Matrix Metering will see these as different since the second photo has 1/3 of the screen a dark background and the first one has no dark background. This would explain the higher exposure on the second one. Spot metering probably would have done you better in this instance.

Thanks for the comments Swampy.
One thing I have noticed is that there is no leeway for error in exposure as there isn't the latitude in the ccd that there is in film as this type of shot never seemed to fool my Nikon F65. Even looking at the negs they always seemed even.

Swampy's right about the matrix , ok for a lot of shots but center or spot on this one , plus it was taken though glass, (colchester zoo?) .

But your sure right about one thing , no exposure latitude at all on the S2, treat it like you were taking slides. it took me a time to work that out.

I've had a CCD replaced by fuji UK, only took a week ,so good luck.

Does anyone use a handheld meter or do you just rely on the internal one?

I'm just use the internal one. I'm not a pro, so it's not real critical for me.
