Excellent lighting and great "ancient" mood to this shot! well done (except for maybe the distracting chair ... might consider crop/clone it out? )

Very nice Denis. That dynamic ranger really does work with the S3.

Thanks Barbara, Igor I think your right. I was thinking out taking out the chair as well, but it is part of the real setting. I will play with it later and post a copy without the chair.

Thanks Andre I love everything about the S3 but the speed.

So they really didn't fix it huh? That's what I dislike the most about the S2. I can't buy an S3 if they haven't fixed the speed. D200 for me I guess...

First of all, very nice - I like the way you captured her contemplative look. I agree with Igor about the chair, howver, overall a very nice rendition.
S3 speed - I've learned to accept it as the quality of the images exceeds the inconvenience of the slow writes. I'm shooting more JPGs now than with the S2, so it's not too big of a deal, except when I do shoot raws - what a pain for it to finish writing before you can change camera settings ....

Don't get me wrong I love the S3. I think for natural colour it can't be beat I rarely shoot raw anymore because it's that good. It's just slow to write and play back, it can be used for action shots but it's tricky. For nopw I use my D70 for action. I've got a D2Xs on my wish list

Nicely done Denis, I don't mind the chair personaly, as I think it adds to the overall balance of the composition. However, with all that warm timber paneling, I thought the color balance was a bit cold.
So I did a bit of a tweak, very subjective I know, hope you like it. :)

Nice job Serge, can you please walk me through the step you took for the colour correction.

Thanks

Denis,
That's a very nice photo. Nice crop, good light, nice mood. The chair doesn't bother me because I don't find it large enough in proportion to the main subject to be distracting, and it's tone blends into the rest of the background tones. I do agree with Serge on the color needing a bit more warmth.

Where is Jones Falls, Ont.? I live in the Buffalo, NY area which is just across the river from southern Ontario and, if it isn't too far, it might be a place for me to visit.

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your comments

Jones Fall is 25 miles North of Kingston Ontario along the historic Rideau Canal. From Buffalo you are looking at a 5 hour drive. Well worth it IMO.

Jones Falls, Kingston Mills, Smith Falls and a host of other Rideau canal spots are all along highway 15 running from Kingston to Ottawa. This is an excellent route for photography. I grew up in Kingston and have made this trip many times. Also it's not too far to the the Thousand Islands from here, which is another nice trip. I especially like highway 15 and the canal route in the fall. I will most likely do this trip next October. Chas, if you are going to do this trip, stop in Toronto for a beer on the way, I'll buy.

And to bring it back to Denrule's post. Nice shot, I don't mind the chair, maybe just do a burn down on that side. Serge's colour change works for me.

Cheers,
Adrian
