With a SB 16 mounted on the camera which is powered by "digital camera battery that I love) I am shooting a fashion show runway. Many times I press the release 3 times before Flash fires. As the girls are always moving I lose the shot I want. Anyone know why this is happening. I am using manual focus. Batteries in flash are good

I use an SB16 with the S2, using standard AA batteries in the flash, and there's been no problem with failure to trigger the flash.

Wow! you guys are great. Quick responjses. You are right I should have given more info. I set flash at TTL Camera at Automatic. This also happens with my SB 26. Sometimes I canfire off repeated shots with no problem.

Bill,
Do you use a modified MB16 with your S2 to replace the CR123 batteries?
I don't know what you mean with
"digital camera battery that I love)
But the S2 is very sensitive to "loose" power connections. I had your same problem when my modified MB16 did not have a good connection with the body. It would be fine when I turned the camera on, but when I pressed the shutter I would also push the MB16 just enough so the connection between the s2 and the powersupply was lost.
Don't know if you have the same situation with powerloss in the Flash unit or the S2?...

Also Bill, when you say you hit the release 3 times before the flash goes, are you saying that you're taking 3 pictures, but the flash only fires on one of them?

Just a hunch, but could there be the possibility that the camera has gone into the "sleep" mode.
You may be waking the camera up on that the first push of the shutter and it's not fully ready to go until the tihird

Maybe the focus was not locked and the camera would not fire?
I have had this happen when a subject was moving and the camera was tring to lock on.

I thought of that too, but he said he was using manual focus.

Pretty basic and I would assume you checked but just in case: Flash unit recycled? If distance is changing from something out a ways, the recycle time will be longer. None of my flash units will fire until they have cycled to at least some minimum point.
Smile, they'll wonder what you're up to!

I had this problem with a slow flash before I starting using a battery pack. I use the Quantum Turbo Battery pack and it is great. Your flash will be much faster.
