I just got my S2 last week and everything work great. Now after
downloading some pics into the PC and then putting the CR123A
batteries back in, the camera is dead. Tried a the AC cord again
and messed with it, and got it going with the AC hooked up and
also with just the AA batteries in it. But when I put the CR123A
batteries in, it does not work. It has something to do with the
two metal contacts on the minus side, you touch or push them
and it shuts the camera down. Any ideas.........

I'm having CR123 troubles as well.
I have had my S2 for 5 weeks and have replaced AA batteries three times but never the CR123s.
I don't use built in flash much and have been using manual focus.
I opened the CR compartment and closed it for the first time since installing them and now all screens remained blank when turning camera back on.
New AAs - no effect, DC - no effect. Camera was a paperweight !!!
I haven't even purchased new CR batteries since I was told you only use them for flash and that they were not needed for camera to function. HA
I have ordered new CR123 batteries and while I wait I found that if I remove the batteries and leave the compartment empty, the camera works. Go figure...
Might be a good idea for everyone to note that if your S2 dies on the job because of dead CR123s all you have to do is remove them. (you may lose auto focus and built in flash but hey whats wrong with a manual camera?)

I checked my CR123a batteries and they are good. One reads
2.74 and the other comes in with 2.71, so this should be enough
to work the camera. When you start to put the CR123a in the
minus slot and the camera is running on the AA batteries, the
camera goes dead when the battery touches the wire contacts
at the mouth of the slot, the camera goes off. They are not going
in the slot very far, about 1/2 inch maybe and it goes off.....

If you are measuring a 3 volt battery at 2.7 volts WITHOUT a load they are pretty shot! As soon as you try to draw current from them they will drop lower and the camera will not like it. A 3v battery will read a bit over the 3v rating at full charge (new).

Well I guess I will pickup a couple of CR123a battery's tomorrow
and try them. Hope this works.
