View Full Version : Back up!
Swampy
September 12th, 2006, 05:14 PM
Finally. After some issues here and there, we're moved, internet is installed and the forums are back up again.
We actually closed a week later than expected on the house and we just got our stuff delivered yesterday. The forum may be back down later on to move it into the rack since it's sitting on a floor right now.

Glad to see the site back up. I missed it. So you are now living in wonderful Colorado. Did you know that lots of people in Colorado do not consider a person to be "from Colorado" unless their grand parents (both sides) were born in Colorado. As an "immigrant" you will always be "not really from Colorado".
Also be ready for the jokes.
What do you call a person from Colorado..............a neutered Texan.

Good to be back. And hope you and your family settle in without a problem. Thanks again for keeping this virtual family together.

Great to see the forum back. I was e-mailing people and asking pathetically "where is everyone".
Glad the move is complete. BTW, I live in Galena and have lived here only the last 30 yrs. I will always be an immigrant. I don't even know the requirements of nativehood here but it has something to do with land and age of herd.

I was seriously getting 'Truman Show' syndrome ( the last scene with the two security guys - "I wonder what else is on ?" )... trying to get my fix from other forums, seeing the teaser for Sigma's new SD14, even reading DPReview and Ken Rockwell's site
Good to have you back Bryan and hope your new house becomes a home real quick.
Let the post-fest begin :)

Phew, at last - a computer without this forum was like having a car with no top gear, or (more suitable analogy) a camera without a lens! :)
We were on holiday in Switzerland and I was able to see the last hour of the forum from its old location while visiting my brother's place but didn't have time to post an important message - "Thank you Jean-Pierre & Tina, great meal, great evening!"
Off to work now, obviously lots of catching up to do when I get home this evening.....
Once again, thank you Bryan - your efforts are appreciated, hope you're not missing SoCal :)
Cheers, Robin

I think it is testement to our "home on the net" that so many replies have been posted since the "We're Baaaaaaaack" post was made by Swampy.
Mr & Mrs Swampy ....... congratulations on your new home, may it bring you many years of happiness, joy, relaxation and when the time arrives ...... retirement :)

We didn't actually move. This was a test to see how many nut cases we had on here. If you posted here within the first 12 hours of the forum being up, you failed the sanity test. :)
I can't believe how many people showed back up in the first 8 hours. It's nice to see you all and great that you all missed this place. Glad you made it back!
First thing on my mind was getting the network up here. I can't believe the ISP here installed with such short notice. Called them Friday at 4pm and they were out here Saturday at 10am and we were up by noon.
Previous conversations were that we had no restrictions, but after all was said and done, they told me the ports were blocked and it would cost us more than anticipated. Now, we're still about $250 a month less than what it was costing me back in California, which is good since I don't have a job anymore. :) However, they've stated that they will be monitoring our usage and if it becomes too great, then we'll have to go with some dedicated package which will cost us quite a bit. They couldn't tell us anything about how much was too much though. Do the normal usage though and we'll see what happens.
You can also thank Melody for the forums being here. Without her, I doubt we would have been able to get in here and would have still be stuck in a hotel somewhere.
Welcome back everyone!

Regarding jobs Bryan, what are you planning to do at your new location? Or is that a too private question to ask here?

As Melody put it, I'm going to be a house hag.
I'm going to wire the house, set up the theater, cook, clean, laundry, mow the small patch of lawn (the rest of the 1.3 million square feet or so doesn't need it). :)
I don't know what I'm going to do just yet. I'm going to feel some things out for my old tech work, look at putting images in galleries perhaps, who knows.

One of the first things you need to do is go into the user CP and change your location. I still think you are living in Orange County, CA.

Damn, I did change my timezone here, but not the location. But just did that now. Not that it will help you know where I am. Hahaha. No one seems to know where Larkspur is or even the larger Castle Rock 15 minutes north of me.
However, Ron's talked about Monument and I didn't know what it really was until I got here and explored. I thought Monument was going to be something way up high near his house on the west side of the Rockies with great vista's and views and what not. It's just a small town a few miles south of me that doesn't look like it has much of anything photography-wise. Monument is where we'll be doing grocery shopping and stuff though.

There's Monument and then there's The Monument. The Monument (caps on "The") is The Colorado National Monument in Grand Junction and has the great vista's, views, etc.
Come on over this next month and I'll show you!

Oh! brother, have you been missed.
This sight is an addiction or magnet, we get drawn to it everyday. I'm so glad you don't charge admission, I think some of us would go broke.
I don't know where Larkspur is, but I have been to Colorado a couple of times many years ago and loved it. You have to start shooting scenes of Colorado just like you did of California. You'll have plenty of subject matter to photograph.
Thanks for bringing the site back up again
