Chris as gold is a colour it should'nt be too hard to get it .
Go into windows/color (or press F6)) and play around with the RGB sliders , keep an eye on the colour box on the bottom of the side menu which will change as you alter the color values .
You might not get it spot on , your moniter might not display it correctly , you only get 256 colour variations , but you might get close .
There are a few other ways of getting it , i'm sure someone else will suggest another way .
Good luck .

As Brian said in the color pallete select R:254, G:194, B:101 in RGB mode, or C:0, M:25, Y:70, K:0 in CMYK mode.
You can vary the values anyway.

Hello George,

If you are using Photoshop then you can select the Pantone colours as your colour guide and there is a metallic Gold colour 871. This will still be a screen colour makeup of the gold colour as gold is not acheiveable on screen as it is a special colour.

I had the same problem, trying to get gold or even silver paint, but they are metalic reflective colours, you cant get them on your screen, i tried to photograf wedding rings and use the eyedropper tool, but than again the result was awfull!

There was once series 1700 Citizen printers that could print real gold & silver colors by using special ribbons.
There was also Alps.....

Rekhon is correct. If you are looking for actual METALLIC COLOR you must print on an offset press using metallic ink. There is no way to get metallic pigments on your screen or even from a high end inkjet printer.

You can fake it though using gradients like this. ( I created this in Illustrator)

Gold is more than a color, it also has the properties of reflectance and texture that make it look metallic. You might get close to the color component with some mix of CMYK or RGB values, but it will just look yellow or brown or something in between. You will never get anything that truly is "gold" on your monitor or in a photographic print. [edit: you can get gold tinted photos using toners, but then again, you can make anything gold, if you just apply gold to it.)

Gold can be printed on an offset press using spot color ink.

Alps, Roland, Gerber, etc. make thermal transfer printers that use resin foils (ribbons) that are sublimated into the substrate (usually a type of vinyl). My client, ZeroNine makes the ribbons, and makes several types of gold and silver metallic and mirror ribbons for the aforementioned printers. ZeroNine also makes process colors and dozens of spot colors that are outside the gamut of CMYK or RGB.

Some samples are shown in this thread:

All the above answers are correct, Chris, I am afraid you cannot get real gold from your printer, the reason being that gold and silver litho inks have microscopic little specks of metal in them to give the shine and I don't think you'd like that going through your inkjet!!!

One more thought, there is such a thing a metallic PAPER that you can print onto with an inkjet. It give your photographs a beautiful shine. I did a shot of a brides red rose bouquet on said paper and MAN! Did she love it!
