View Full Version : Power outtage possible

So, we've had 3 or 4 power spikes this morning, 2 second outtages or so. Batteries held up no problem of course, but with the storm we're getting right now and being new to this area, I'm not sure how reliable the power is here.

So, be warned, power may go out here longer than the batteries can handle it (30-45 minutes). We've got about 12 inches of snow in about 3 hours and it's supposed to continue snowing this hard for another 3-4 hours and taper off in 8-10 hours. Predicted 20 inches today for my area!

Tell me about it, I drove from Denver to home starting at 3am and just now made it back at 10:30. It should be a three hour drive. Nasty.

Nice!!!

Still blowin here. Patio furniture is almost buried. White caps on my pond even and we're also watching it start to freeze from the edges outward.

I felt bad for the birds cause they were just getting blown all over the place trying to get to the feeders, so I picked out a protected spot and dropped a bunch of feed out of the wind and snows path. There's probably 50 birds hanging out there now!

3 more spikes on the power, but it's all holding here. Can't image the drive you musta had! Glad I don't have to go no where!!!

It wasn't too bad as I like to drive in the snow and adverse weather. It looks like we'll have a pretty good snow year if this keeps up.

Wooo! Snow! Pics?

How's Connie doing? Doesn't matter if you don't have a place to go, too much of that gives you cabin fever.

Hope everything is ok and you don't get any damage from the storms... It sounds as though your birds are as spoilt as ours...

From our local paper. Thanks for sending it on, Swampy! Tonight's the Final Friday Gallery Crawl and although wet, it's supposed to be pleasant when the sun sets:

A storm system that dumped heavy snow on Denver on Thursday will bring winds of 40 to 60 mph -- or more -- to the Wichita metropolitan area this morning, along with rain.

"From about midnight to about noon, we're going to be dealing with some pretty intense winds -- potentially damaging in some cases," KWCH meteorologist Mark Larson said. "It's going to be a potentially ugly morning."

Snow? :woot:

Here we still have summer  ...well it's not as nice as in July but hardly any rain and temps still well above 16 degree Celcius (61 degrees Fahrenheid).

A long way from snow yet...would be nice to see some before Christmas.

Anyway, good luck with the storm, hope you don't get damages.

Looks like everything is ok, obviously the forum remained up. Our last little storm prompted me to treat my sattelite dish so snow didn't stick to it as we lost signal last time.

Didn't help this time because the snow piled on so high on the roof that it blocked the signal anyway. :baldy:

I took some snapshots to share with the kids back home and family...

Still plowing my way out down the driveway though. No damage and the pond has a minimum inch and a half of ice on it.

It's all melting very fast like Bear mentioned though.

Yeah, we spoil our birds too. In fact, earlier this morning, it was the saddest and funniest thing. Connie yells down to me to come take a look.

A bird flew into a small window just outside a door. While, yes, sad indeed and dumb on my part to grab a camera (although it would have been funnier with a video camera), he halfway knocked himself out and landed upside down head first into the snow. All you could see was it's tail and little feet sticking up in the air and his feet were wiggling all around.

Connie's telling me to help it, so, in jest, I grabbed the shotgun and said I'd help him. I was just kidding of course, but the look on Connie's face was priceless too.

I pulled him out of the snow, brought him into the garage for a minute to warm up and he wasn't doing anything but sitting there, not trying to get away. So, took him down to where the feeders were and he finally took off from my hand and landed on a chair next to me and after another couple of minutes, took off completely.
