I bought an SB-600 flash last week, as I had a couple of jobs over the weekend. Both events were indoors, with a mix of fluorescent and ambient lighting in both situations. There's a wild variation in the white balance between the shots, which meant a lot of playing in photoshop to get things looking consistent. I used AWB (as I always do) on my D70.
While playing with the camera yesterday, I noticed that when I put the flash unit on, the white balance remains on Auto. I took some test shots indoors and found a variation in white balance, even with similar subjects. I switched to 'flash' for the white balance, and everything looks ok - no variation.
So the question is - should I set the camera to 'flash' white balance when using the SB-600? I've never done this before when I used my S2/SB-24 together, and I don't remember getting this sort of problem.
BTW, the SB-600 is an amazing piece of kit. Every shot was spot on in terms of exposure, and the wireless commander mode means I don't have to sod about with a flash bracket/cable to avoid shadows in awkward lighting situations.
