View Full Version : My camera keeps leaning on it's lens!

I've had my S2 for less than a week now and I don't like the fact the the camera has such a narrow base that it won't stand up with my small 35-80 Nikon lens attached to it. I like to sit the camera on my desk when d/l pictures from it. Does anyone have a suggestion for me about how they keep their camera from leaning on it's lens?

I have no doubt that my larger 70-210 Sigma will need a third leg to help it sit without leaning on the lens.

Thanks,

The way I balance my camera is ignoring gravity and building up my lens. I use filter step-up rings so I can use a larger filter, which then acts like a third leg (but who's counting?). For my 20mm Nikkor, I use a 62mm to 140mm step-up ring and a 140mm UV filter. I bought mine from a sandal maker in Drake Bay, Costa Rica.

I also keep a tripod handy near the desk, so I can mount the S2 and not worry about knocking it off if I hit a cord.

I thought about other ways to keep the camera from tipping forward, like putting a stack of pink erasers under the lens, keeping it in a case, laying it on its back, using lead-acid AA & 123 batteries, mounting a Speedotron 2400 flash powerpack to the hot shoe, etc., and I had some silly ideas too.

I hope that somebody can help you. I know I need help.

Thanks,

I thought about laying the camera on it's back, but then I thought about all of those fancy buttons and such on the rear.

Perhaps when I decide on new or more filters, I will consider the solution you mentioned.

That tripod near the computer looks like a nice home solution. But what about when visiting a location away from your office (pc)? Sometimes a dangling camera is not the option when searching through my bag or (re)arranging a subject.

Anyway, I will think about a mini tripod for my computer area.

Thanks for the ideas,
