Hi,
I have an old Metz 402 that I need to replace the battery in & am wondering if it will work ok on my S3?
I have used it in the past on my S2 with no probs, but after reading several things I'm now paranoid about damaging the electronics in the body (S2 or S3).
There is a website that lists voltages for lots of different flashes & the Metz 402 comes in at 202V - is this safe? I have read that Nikon's are safe upto 250V, but I don't know about the Fuji.
I really could do without the expense of a Wein Safe Sync Hotshoe adaptor if I don't need one.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Colin

Colin,

Don't know the answer to your question, but why risk it? The Wein device is a small insurance item to protect your more valuable camera.

Just a thought...

Have a look on Metz website. they list all the comaptible flashguns for the S2 and S3.

I've done some research on this for my S2 and S3.

If I remember right, the S2 can stand trigger voltages up for 200V, but the S3 only up to 60V.

For trigger voltages I've found this site very handy:

Just found the notes I made on Flash, from enquiries with Fuji.

As follows:

Can I use my studio strobes on the S2 Pro camera?
A flash or studio strobe system that does not exceed 250 Volts at the "Sync" terminal will be safe to use on the S2 Pro camera.
The maximum withstand voltage on the external terminal for the S2 Pro camera is 250 Volts. If the application of voltage exceeds the withstand voltage then it will damage the camera circuitry.

Do not connect two external flash units simultaneously to the synchro terminal and the hot shoe on the camera as this will result in damage to the camera circuitry.

The flash trigger voltage must not exceed the voltage supplied in table below:

S9000, S20Pro, S7000, S602, FX6900 and FX4900
400V

S1Pro and S2Pro
240V

S3Pro
40V

Sorry to reply to my own post!

Thanks for all the response -that web site you list Polar has my Metz & it comes in at 204Volts - glad I haven't tried it on my S3 yet!
I'm in the middle of making an isolator unit at the moment & will let you know how it works.
I found the details here:
