The sun had already set ... camera had been put away, then I saw this cloud. Even at ISO 1600 I had to shoot at 1/10 handheld.

Forget the cloud lightwrangler, you can hardly see it anyway , but what a great shot, the composition is superb. the rail leads you right into the picture , i would frame that and hang it , beautiful shot.
Just a queery ,if you'd put your camera away, what did you take the pic with :D :

Just being cheeky aren't you sandman? (Who are you calling a queery - dearie?). I took the shot by transfering my minds eye via telepathy to the camera's chip. If you don't believe that I'm clairvoyant, then you certainly aren't one of the drivers I encounter every day in Toronto.
Actually I think the cloud makes this picutre - take it away and the shot isn't as interesting. Thanks for your comments.

Could be my laptop ,the contrasts not too great on it, but i still can't see much of a cloud , i'm working away this weekend hence the laptop (and lack of fire engines) but i'll have a look on my desktop when i get back home , and apologize if there's a great big cloud in the middle.
Thats the trouble with words add an e and you get cruicified
so i'll spell it right (query) . :)

About a month or so ago I was picking my son up at our church and noticed the sky was beginning to get dark and clouds were beginning to build. A storm was on the way in central Kansas. RAW with only a few adjustments.

My wife is in Colorado taking fall pictures while I stay home and work. Snif! Si I will post this in her name. It is a full frame, unmanipulated JPG file that was shot about an hour after I took the above picture. This is a classic wall cloud at sunset that is very dangerous. In fact take cover dangerous. But, it all passed and we lived to see another storm.

This is the sunset from my room tonight , untouched apart from slight adjustment in levels only. The vapour trails are because here in north kent we're on the flight path of 4 major airports.

Wayne,
That was an awesome night and I've seen some great photographs of that sky. Anyone know what makes clouds do that?
We left the house and headed to the Great Plains Nature Center on the NE corner of the city and while my husband got the great sky off to the west, I concentrated on seeing it through undergrowth until a wild inhabitant decided to go under my tripod. With only sandals on, I took off. Missed the good shots, saved the toes.

Taken looking N.E. right in your direction, so one of those planes might be coming in from Amsterdam. I might have tweaked the levels down a bit too far, seem to remember a bit more light in the sky, i've saved the original so i'll have a look.
Seems i been typing all morning, answered more threads than i meant to, so i'll shut up and go and get a cup of tea, and start work. still got to find a fire engine.

We should pick the best 12 shots on the forum and make a calendar.
