My trusty D70 finally died yesterday. A few weeks back it got caught in a gust of wind - the tripod, camera and 80-200 lens lifted off the ground and bounced several times on the concrete (it was raining so I was using a home-made rain cover which acted like a kite when the wind picked up). Apart from a few scratches and a small crack in the casing it seemed fine, but it went 'pop' yesterday. Nothing on the top of the camera works at all, and pressing the shutter just gives a gentle clicking sound. It was sent to Nikon UK today for assessment.

The annoying bit? The camera is covered under insurance, and will be replaced (new for old) if it's under 2 years old. I checked my receipts and found that the camera was bought 2 years and 3 days ago. Typical eh?

If the accident happened before the 2 years, you shoudk be able to get the insurance to cover it. Insurance companies love technicalities and liuve and die by the calendar. Even if the accident occured hours before the 2 year timeline was met, it should be covered.
