Swampy

I haven't checked to see if there were any firmware upgrades, but I was shooting my 1Ds and 5D side by side last night for hours. Long shutter speeds, 2-2 1/2 minutes each, non-stop. I'm talking 6 hours straight last night.
About 4 hours into it with the 5D on an unknown battery charge (hadn't been charged in months - don't know how many shots were taken on that charge previously either), I closed the shutter, it wrote the file, then wouldn't take another picture. I'm like, huh? Break out the red flashlight and look at the displays. The top display has every single icon lit up, including the battery indicator with all bars and the compensation bars being all lit up. Wouldn't turn off with the power switch, so I popped the battery, put it back in, turned it on. Everything was fine. Oh wait, 2 seconds, display was lit up again.
I experimented. Popped the battery a few times with the same results. Hit the play button really quick after putting the battery in and it displayed the picture. Took a shot from there, it did the exposure and wrote the file, then display lit up again.
huh.
Went and got a new battery and popped it in and everything was fine for another 90 minutes until I quit shooting for the night.
That was odd.
My 1Ds, the battery went out and I noticed the battery was saying empty (the graph) and it was flashing 30 seconds into a 2 1/2 minute exposure. But it kept going through the whole exposure and after it wrote the file, it stayed on, but I popped a fresh battery in at this point.
My 5D, I don't think I've ever run the battery "dead" before charging it, so I'm wondering if this is what it does when the battery dies and that I have an issue, or if something else is wrong (still an issue).
I'm just posting my experience up here is all. I doubt anyone else has had this problem, but I'll try and keep an eye on it.
