Looks like I'll be getting the 5D within a week or two from B and H Photo (I like buying from companies I can trust).

I'm not familiar with Canon lenses (they seem to have several different 'lines' of lenses) and would like to hear from you guys on the best lenses for wide (not fisheye), portrait and landscapes.

Thanks!

I use the 16-35mm f2.8L for my wide shots. It covers quite a bit. However, when I was in Antelope Canyon, I had wished I had a 14mm, but was able to catch just about everything I wanted in those tight quarters.

Remember when Connie and I were passing through and we met up, I let you look through my 1Ds with that lens. Not sure if that helps you any. :)

You can not use any Canon lenses marked EFS as they are designed for 1.6x crop cameras like the Rebels and the 20/30D's. They are the equivalent to Nikon's DX lenses. Not that that says anything since they don't have anything but 1.5x crop. Just remember that you can't use EFS lenses, only EF.

Canon's lenses designated with the "L" are their premo lenses. No L and it's lower end glass.

IS is VR.

Offer is still open to drop in here and try some different glass.

I'm not driving to LA next week or I'd stop by really quick on my way out...

If you are interested in wide angle on the 5D then you first of all have to remember that the 5D is FF...in other words 28mm is a real wide angle again.

24mm is already a super wide angle and 20 mm is called an ultra wide angle.

Quite a difference with the cropcameras where 17 mm is actually 26 mm (Fuji) or 27 mm (Canon).

A cheap ultra wide would be the 20/2.8. A good lens but it shows vignetting on the 5D at the largest apertures because of it's ultra wide character. Remember: You would need a 13mm lens (non fisheye) for your Fuji to equal this

A very expensive lens would be the 14/2.8L. Although very expensive and an L lens it's problems with vignetting are quite the same as the 20/2.8. The reason being it's extremely wide-angle for a FF camera. Like having a 9 mm (non fisheye) lens for your Fuji !!!

The lens Bryan has is another option of course. If I remember correctly Cnon has a new version of that lens, more expensive but even better IQ. I think Lum.Landscape has a test regarding the two.

The differences in price are considerable in the above choices, the IQ doesn't do much between them, but of course some are wider than others :)

No big, Steve. From what I've seen the 5D will perform just fine.
