vivitar 283 and 285hv question

Hi, I ve just aquired both of these units the 283 starts charging to flash then beeps with amber light and no full charge, the 285hv with same batteries charges quickly and flashes, does the 283 take much more power to charge and batteries are dying?
Also is there a lead to trigger the 283 via the 285hv? I cant establish the safe voltage of the 283 so would be good to trigger it via the 285hv which is ok.

I think the 283 will beep when the capacitor isn't fully charged.

A couple of manual discharges should resolve it.
