Does printing at 720dpi use less ink than printing at 1440dpi?

In his book "Mastering Digital Printing" Harald Johnson says he has tried measuring it and does not see a big difference in ink use. There is likely some reduction, but it does not go down by 50 percent.
My experiance is similar. I believe I am putting a bit less ink down, but not half - I just get bigger dots. It does greatly speed up printing on matt stock, and for some projects is OK. You don't get as much detail on a 2200 at lower res, but you might live to see the job get done...:-)
My lower res prints are not as dense, hence I feel less ink is going down. Use a test chart (greayscale) and see if you agree.

yes it does, it seems to deliver reasonable print quality as well, as long as it is a matt print.
I use the 2200 and that has been my experience

Last year when doing some volume printing I found that using 720 vs 1440 on heavyweight matte reduced ink consumption approx 15-20%...
The above being said, I have noticed about a 5% variance between cartridges, which surprised me since the count is done on a chip that (almost) always says the ink's out before the prints say the ink's out.
