Freezer method.
My iBook battery aint like it used to be, that is, it doesnt hold its charge very long.
Has anyone experienced putting it in the freezer to eliminate battery memory?
Can this process harm the battery?
Id remove it from the puter first, of course.
Any tips?

I had a powerbook G3 battery that only had about 45min use. Apple suggest that you use the battery completely up and let the computer shut down on its own, make sure you disable the energy saver, then you have to plug the charger in and not use it for at least 24hrs. Do this a couple of times in a row and the battery should be a lot better. My battery increased to just over 2hrs.
There is a guide on the apple web site but I can't remember the address. Try a search for battery charging etc.

Doug,
Sounds like a new battery is needed. I have been doing a lot of work on Lithium ion batteries adn once they fail that is it. I guess that your ibook has a Lion battery.

If it is NiMH then you may be able to get it refurbished (or you could do it yourself, if you are OK about doing this).

However if it is a lion batttery do not try to refurbish as the cells need to be 'matched' to the charging circuitry.

My PowerBook G3 333 (Bronze Lombard) battery ain't what it used to be either. When new, it held a usable 4 hours, now it is about 2 minutes.

Apple has a Battery Reset application at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60655 that is a two part application. One part fixes a problem where you computer doesn't properly recognize, and another part that helps batteries charge. It says the charging part is only for PowerBook G3 Series batteries only.

I looked on eBay and found a lot of Apple batteries for sale. Buyer beware! Most auctions state that the battery charges and reports that it has a substantial charge (ie 2.5 hours), but was not really tested. MY battery looks great, and when "charged" says it has a 2.5 hour charge, but only lasts 2 minutes.
