Hi all,

Has anyone visited
http://www.pbase.com/copperhill/ccd_cleaning

and tried his method with a spatula and PEC-PADS ?
Allot of people have benifitted from this method, but it is mainly
Canon and NIKON, anyone brave enough to have tried it on the S2 ?

If only PEC-PADs were availabe in South Africa, I would have tried it ...

Yes, it's far superior to Sensor Swabs.

Look at the Photographic Solutions website and find a dealer for their products in OZ. I can't advise a spatula you can buy locally, but there should be a number of products you can use.

It is much better (and cheaper) than sensor swabs... I use it all of the time. Nicholas (the guy who wrote that blurb on the web about cleaning your CCD) did a great job and has saved me hundreds of $$$ because of it.

Get it...

First time I had my dust on the sensor I was schocked. DUST on MY sensor ?

Then I´ve bought my first package of sensor-swabs and Eclipse. I was schocked again => Price.

Later on I´ve read the article with the spatuly, have driven 25 miles to get one. Folded my Pec Pads on it and

it saved me so much money, that I still love my S2 :D

For now, sensor-swabs are my alternative to spatula-work, not vice-versa.

Hello Dear All,

the last weeks I only read the Threads at "S2PRO.COM" with no member status. Today I decided to be a new memberr of this forum.
At the new german "S2PRO.DE" forum we have a discussion about CCD-Cleaning.

The CCD-Cleaning Thread "Anyone made use of the home made swab method" a cleaning method with a spatula and PEC-Pads has been descriped. I would like to ask "Wilm" from germany, from where he got the spatula and the Pec-Pads here in germany.

Sorry about my bad english.

Nice greentings from Germany, Frankfurt/Main

By the way, your forum is very informative and helpful and it is always very nice to read the friendly statements from all the members.

Hi all

I ordered the Pec-Pads and Eclipse and found a small sized spatuala.
Now I did my first cleaning trials. After 3 times swabbing the ccd sensor was largely clean.
It was much easyer to clean the sensor as to cut the spatula to the right size and preparing with the pec pads.

Yes, I use the spatula/pec-pad method with the Eclipse cleaning solution. It still amazes me how a small speck shows up as a huge chunk on the pic (zoomed in of course)...
I use the spatula, however, I've been thinking (dangerous:) ), wouldn't it be better to use something softer - like one of those smaller foam paint brushes (with the pec-pad wrapped/taped on the end) ... the tip of the foam brush would 'give' a bit more...
anyway - I also pull out the manula, and go thru step by step each time as I'm afraid I'll miss something and the mirror will come down in the middle of a cleaning ...

I use a similar technique to that described here.

I get Methanol or IsoPropanol from a chemist and use Qtips for my swabs. I rinse out the Qtips with methanol before use to get rid of any stray lint/hairs, dust.

I will try to make up a swab a la Coperhill but the Qtips seem to be OK.

See here for my method:
