Hi everyone - I've just joined (why does that give me an image of an AA meeting in my head?!). I found the forum a day or two ago - and I've been reading through the threads with interest.
I've just bought my S2 - after a number of years with various digital cameras - the most recent being the 300D. I'm an "enthusiastic amateur" - probably more skilled with Photoshop than the camera itself...!
I live in Oxford, England - originally from Cornwall. I know some of my ancestors went to the US back in the 1800's - so be careful you US guys - we might be related!

Good morning Sandman and Igor - hello to you both.
Sandman - yes, Cornwall is lovely - I'm from near Tintagel - you may have been there - lots of tourists!
Igor - you're correct - although I'd like to visit sometime - how about next weekend? LOL ..

Just caught this before going off to do a bit of work, yes been up there many times , somewhere in the photo's section way back i posted a few pics , ''the old post office'', several knights walking up the street , etc. I like the atlantic coast , it's wilder than the south , but it's also harder to get around too, don't know if you caught the TV show last night about the holiday swap , but one couple camped at watergate bay , and the other couple hated it , strange ,said it was boring and did'nt like walking . Love it there myself . got to go now Trip to eastbourne , in case your homesick just found it.

Ahhhh - the Old Post Office - I've been past it many times - usually to go to the pub just down the road!
I always check it to see if that roof has fallen in yet....!:)

Welcome to another UK'er.
Yes, Corwall is nice, but I don't have fond memories. :( I smashed up my ankle/leg in a carpark in Bodmin at the beginning of May. I'm still in pain :(
Truro is aparently nice, but I only saw a small part of it while being wheeled from the rescue helecopter to the hospital.
Of course I HAD to take pictures of my mangled leg while lieing there in abject agony. Another use for a digital camera, pain killer :)

Hello Redslug - wow! all the Brits coming out ... where are all the US? Still in bed I suppose...
Sorry to hear about the leg - don't hold it against Cornwall!
Was that a motorbike accident by any chance? It brings back (unwanted) memories of a motorbike accident I had a few years ago... I didn't take photos though!

I'd like to say I was doing 140MPH on my Kawasuki Flamebird, but the truth is I slipped on some wet grass and fell down a bank onto a concrete path. If you watched the "100 greatest horror moments" on TV recently and saw that famous scene from "Misery" you'll have some idea of the shape of my ankle.

This is the best scene in my opinion in Truro , a cornish pasty shop i'm still on their mailing list . The cathedral not bad , next weekend if i go down, i'm going up to port Isaac to see an old friend might get into Truro , give Bodmin a miss though. i'll tell you about broken bones from bike crashes THEY HURT .
Heres that shop .
Brian.

Welcome Bilbo, I have no clue where you UK'ers live although I was born in Stockport, England. Parents dragged me kicking and screaming when I was 18 months old to Illinois. Other than a whole bunch of relatives and watching an occassional Manchester United game, I am unfortunately very much removed from my old stomping grounds. Hope to visit this coming year!!!

Sorry Paully if you were born in Manchester (stockport is near enough) then you're a brit , no two ways about it, you're one of us . :D :D . location wise we will put you down as living in the west country .
Being a Liverpool supporter i'm looking foward to meeting the reds on sunday ..

If I'd known of a decent cornish pasty shop I would have got my wife to smuggle some into Trilisk (sp?) Hospital for me. Better than the slop I was given by the NHS.

Glad to hear you've got good taste in U.K. football teams Dhani.I've got two tickets for sundays match with Man Utd. My cousin who lives in Liverpool got them, can't go, its a midday kick off , it takes 8-9 hours to drive up and back and i've got a really busy day on monday. pity.
Don't know why you don't like Fulham , but we beat them 1-2 last week, last minute goal. Looks like we're too far behind 3 teams to really challenge again this season , but you never know , stranger things have happened. maybe a good cup run in Europe.

Yes Anfield, no i'm no bird:D , it's a picture i bought just took it out of the frame and scanned it for you . Bill Shankley Gate is middle right hand side.
Not to sure about Houiller, sometimes a genius, sometimes seems a bit short of idea's . Been there a long time now ,spent £100 million ,and we sometimes seem to be going backwards . no i'm not sure .
Off to work this morning ,no saturdays off for me

NO , just watched the game paully , should have got something out of it, Heskey really should have equallized late on. how did you watch it,(if you did), 2 of my drivers are Man U fans ,so i'm going to take enough stick without it coming from 4,000 miles away as well .:D .

Brian, Unfortunately I could not watch the game. Found out the results from the BBC Sports site. Catching the English Premier League over hear can be very expensive. I believe a single game runs around $19.95. Otherwise you can sign up for a package of games for around $150 but you have no control over which match you might see.

Dhani he's always falling over at the wrong time, for a big guy any contact and he's over.
To late now for a challenge ,just after that match i watched Chelsea destroy Newcastle 5-0, so we're 13 points behind Arsenel, Man U, and Chelsea and still have to play 2 of them away yet , no chance .
Glad i did'nt go up now it would have been a long, long, drive home, I've got 4 drivers with me today , 2 United fans , 1 chelsea, and 1 arsenel, i think it's going be a hard day ,as i'm stuck in the yard doing some much needed repairs.
Sorry to bore all you others out there who wonder what the hell we're on about .

Hi Sandman-
I went to college in Arundel. No, actually I swilled beer and chased girls while pretending to go to college, but in between pub crawls, I saw a lot of the countryside in southern England... mostly on a bicycle. I was a racing cyclist and did some loooong training rides in the south, , particularly liked Brighton. I just loved living there. Eventually made my way to london, poured beer in a bar in Earl's Cort, then made my way to Ghent , Belguim where the real cycling occured. Wish I had a camera in those days, but the memories are still vivid.

Hi hotrod, if you've pub crawled Arundell , you must have visited the ''black rabbitt'' up the dead end road by the castle. nice grub and a good pint. If you went to college on the south coast it's no wonder you liked brighton , :D :D .
