In process of cleaning up files...
This is 100% crop of pic, & the downsized "full" image below.
1/350, f3.3, std, std, off, normal, full resolution.
Usually use for kids soccer games (one of the few times when I use in camera sharpening), does very well, but for the above took to the Philly zoo...

Hi Leeper,
I am thinking if this sigma 70-200 lens are a good choice (alternative to the expensive Nikkor). Are you happy with thhis lens?.

I am.
I use mostly for kids soccer, which is on a 1/2 sized field & I get great close ups & it's fast enough, f2.8, & with focusing, HSM, to get some very good shots without walking up & down the sidelines...
I have the earlier version that needs the replacement chip (that starts with a 3 - new ones start with a 4) that supposedly has problems... sometimes I do need to turn the camera off then back on--not a big deal to me.
Also, take to zoo & plan to use more for ocassional backyard wildlife: various birds, turkeys, groundhogs, racoons, deer, bears, etc. -- my neighbors are filling the bird feeders which attact all...
As mentioned the samples were straight out of the camera, with no in camera sharpening & the subject was about 20 yards/meters away...
The above being said I have seen the non-VR AFS nikkor very near the sigma price.

Don't know about the earlier versions of the sigma 70-200.
Re the chip problem... when buying make sure serial number starts with a 4 or greater, otherwise you MAY have problems where the lens locks up (quits autofocusing) until you turn off camera (even briefly) & back on.

Hi
I see. Maybe this is the problem. I know a potographer in my city, Zaragoza. He use a S2 Pro and this lens. He told me that he has a lot of problems to make a good autofocus. I will ask him about the serial number.
By the way Fuji Spain does not afirm any problem with this lens.
Regards.
