I have my (older) monitor set to 600x800. When I open a RAW file in CS, the buttons on the right and bottom of the screen are not visible and I have not found a way to shrink the size of the imageso that the controls are visible.

Does this require a 1024 width monitor.

It's very likely that it does. There are a lot of programs lately that require a minimum of 1024x768.

If and when you get a new monitor you won't regrete it. Being able to see these bottons will not be the only benefit. I do all my editing in 1600x1200. For example, in 1600x1200 it is amazing how much easier it is for me to pick the amount of USM I want than it is when I'm in 1024x768.

I have just got CS and there is a minimum size for the raw converter window. I have a Mac G3 laptop with a 15in monitor and it virtually fills the whole screen. If I click and drag on the top bar of the window, it will allow me to move it around. If you have or get a 20in or larger screen you can even enlarge the raw window.

The system requirements for CS state that a minimum resolution of 1024x768 is needed. Oh well! Time for a new monitor, perhaps?:)

Hi Eddie,

You seem to be a man in the know. Have you got CS yet? Iv'e only just got hold of Photoshop 7 and that will no doubt keep me busy for a while yet!! Plus the extra cost involved with upgrading of course..

Thanks, Eddie, that's some wide monitor you have there, or are you like my son with a pair of monitors and two video cards.

Yes, Steve, I do have CS. It's pretty good, and has lots of new features. Its main improvement (for me at least) is that it reads and converts raw files from the Fuji extremely well. I hadn't used raw much before I got this as Fuji didn't see fit to include a useful converter in the UK package.

Jim - I do have a pair of monitors (22") running off one dual-head graphics card. It's a pretty expensive setup and one that I can't afford to duplicate at home, where I manage with a single 19". 19" monitors are really amazingly cheap these days, and you'd really notice a difference with Photoshop - so much more space to move around in!

Eddie

I'll agree. Desktop space is a must. I'm in pain working at 1280x1024. I'm ok with working at 1600x1200 on my 22" monitor, but I would like to have more deskspace and I need to get off my duff and hook up a second monitor to my second head on my video card. I'm really hating working on one screen with PS.

There are so many new features in CS, it really is a good upgrade:

Improvments in the file browser

The RAW plug in

Photofilters

Layers in 16 bit files is great as well. So you can start with a 16 bit from your RAW file.

Some other cool stuff, Lens blur, chnages to picture packages, a new healing tool...

I haven't had a chance to play with all of them,... but I will!
