I tried using a few LCD screens years ago for image editing and decided the two were mutually exclusive. I'm not so sure anymore. I tried out several new LCD monitors and decided to upgrade my system. These 24-inch Samsung SyncMaster 240T monitors have a 500:1 contrast ratio and are running at 1920x1200 each. I love all the new desktop workspace. If you haven't tried out newer high-end LCD monitors, it might be worth trying them out again. Any thoughts?

Yes, they were expensive......

D@/\/\n Shawn! Xmas comes early! I love those screens. The executive at my office (featured in my H1+DCS645 picture posted a month or so ago) has one of those. I would love to have one (or two like you) for myself. My problem is that I also play video games and LCD's just haven't been up to snuff over a CRT.

I would say that if you bought a high end LCD and it was calibrated correctly, there's no reason not to use an LCD today for editing photos. Key here is that it needs to be calibrated correctly. If the contrast ratio is what they say it is, and I tend to believe it seeing it in person, those two screens will be fine.

Shawn, drool drool...
Be creful that a masked man with a swag bag doesn't visit.
Your setup looks awesome.

Are you using a dual head video card so you are driving both TFTs off the same card or is it two PCs ?

The only thing that I have seen that could touch this is the Apple Cinema 23" display.

They're both being driven by a single nVidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra video card.

Anyone know anything about the new Samsung 173P?

I love the thin and light LCD displays but hate doing image editing on them. A good CRT is better than the best LCD for tonal range. I will be adding a second pivoting LCD to use with my 22" CRT. The LCD will be for tools, the CRT for images.

You dog! Here I sit packing everything for yet another move and am looking at my 21" Cornerstone p1650 with more than little disdain! This freaking thing's box is something like 35x35x35" !!!

You've got my interest brudda.

I just added a Samsung 153T with pivot capability to expand my workspace. I run an NEC-Mitsubishi 22" CRT and have the 15" LCD rotated vertically on the left side for palettes, file searching and web browsing. The Matrox 550 dualhead handles the configuration fine, but I may upgrade to a Parhelia to get higher bit depth with a high refresh rate on the CRT.

The Samsung is a good LCD, but it is terrible for image display. It's comic-book contrasty and intense. Crank down the brightness to a reasonable print simulation level and the blacks look like greys. Text, photos and graphics look harsh and coarse. I'll keep my big, heavy, beautiful CRT for a while yet...
