I put my microdrive in my camera today and it says card not initialized. It is all the way in the slot. Is there anyway to reformat the card? My camera doesn't even recognize it anymore. I just got it in September. It's a hitachi ibm microdrive. Anyone else had this problem?

I accidentally converted a raw file on the card. I thought I was in the harddrive file folder and I was in the microdrive folder. When I realized this was the case I tried to cancel the conversion but it wouldn't cancel it already made the Tiff copy on the card.
The camera won't intialize the card and my card reader on my printer won't read it either. It says error on card. Is there any fix to this other than sending it back to Hitachi?

okay I guess I just had this conversation w myself but I just thought I would post the answer to this problem for any future people with the same problem.
I did a search on this forum and found a thread under problems started by swampy101 who encounter the card not initialized error. I tried his method of putting the card in turning on the camera and pushing the play button and then hitting the menu button repeatedly and finally after pushing the menu button about 8 times the format screen came up. I was able to format the card and am in business again. whew!
Another problem solved by the great advice found on this forum!

Looks like I'm a few days late for this conversation but here I am. I just posted a comment on this on another string. The last persons comment is true if you were using an IBM 1gb microdrive but the problem is probably with the Hitachi. I bought 2 of the Magicstor 2.2gb microdrives and used them in 2 different S2s and they have problems. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Mostly they don't. You can reformatt them all you want and they still screw up.

I don't know if this will help but it has worked for me. I have had problems with my IBM microdive over the last few weeks. The camera kept saying 'card not initialised'. The prblem just kept getting worse so I resorted to fomatting the card on my computer via a card reader and it seems to work fine now. I think the format function on the camera sometimes tends not to wipe the drive properly and fragments are still left which the machine has trouble reading.
Ps you can also run scandisk to check for errors
