Is your camera polite and well behaved? What do you see when the CR123s die?
The first set gave me ERR in the upper display and a low battery indication

The second time the camera went berserk! It was during image review and it just got batty. I was moving along page by page and it went into hyper speed and showed about 10 thumbnails a second until I shut the darn thing off. When I turned it back it reported a card that I had just formatted as "full" and another card as "Not Initialized" All the time showing a half full battery icon in the upper display.
I pulled out the CR123 and they measure about 2.7 volts with no load (supposed to be 3V, so I figure they are truly dead) I think I will start not using CR123 as I don't use the popup flash, and I can't deal with erratic behavior. It makes me erratic
