Hi All. I'm glad to see the site is back up.

I recieved my Olympus P-440 printer and am very happy with it.
The pictures print quickly, look great, are waterproof with great detail. Racerx, did you order one?

I couldn't be happier with the printer and it was worth the wait. Now I can print like Costco and they are waterproof to boot. Ken

He ordered one, yes. I just sent him a nasty gram letting him know that someone is talking to him and to re-register and get on here.

Glad to see swampy picked up the forum to keep it alive.

kgravett, to answer your question, I ordered one and is due to arrive tomorrow based on the latest UPS tracking. Got it from Amazon.com for $449 shipping and tax included. Can't wait to start taking pictures and get the same results you did. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out for me. Thanks for checking.

You guys will love your new printers! If you get tired of it let me know! I'll take it off your hands!

Looks like I won't be getting mine till late winter early spring now. I still have my P400s, so I'm not hurting. I'll also be replacing my Epson 1280 at the same time. Still have my 1280, but it's now a dye sub printer for transfer items. I'm completely impressed with everything I have done since I have converted it over!

Well, I was lucky enough to get mine today. Got it from Amazon.com for $449.00 shipping was FREE and no tax because of where I live. Just wanted to post the news and will be back after testing a few prints on it. I hope you're right Alissa. ;)

Alissa you where 100% right! After printing around 20 prints and making adjustments on it, it works AWESOME !
A true 8x10, prints in 75 seconds max. The feel and colors are even better. I highly recommend this printer to anyone. For the price of $449 you get more then you can imagine. Hell there's some inkjets out there that goes for that price. Anyway, if this post doesn't convince you, then you never know what you missed.

I had a few of those 1270s....I kept getting *drips* of ink on my photos. Epson was kind enough to replace my printer a few times..Then they sent me a 1280 when it came out. They basically told me to go away, when they sent me that printer...

The 1280 had the same problem.....Then we figured out what the trouble was.......DOG HAIR! It gets in the printer, and the ink travels down the fur, and causes drips or large trails of ink on the photos. Guess the dogs will have to go!!! NOT!

The 1270 is as nice an ink jet as the 1280. There are 2 major differences between the 2 printers, from what I remember......The 1280 can print to the edge of the paper, & it has a higher res for printing than 720dpi. I never use it higher than 720, on a 300 dpi image. All it seems to do is eat more ink, when on the higher printing res. I think the 1280 can do 4x6 & panoramic pics, and the 1270 can't. I could be wrong on those though.

I like both printers, but the Dye Sub printer, handles very dark colored dogs, and deep shadows MUCH better! AND There is MUCH less waste of materials with the Olympus. Not counting the dog hair issue......
 I have a driver problem with my 1280, & banding is a pain in the rear!

We use the Kodak 8500 dye sub and love it. The reason we didn't go with the Olympus is it didn't print true 8x10. Also use a HiTi dye sub to print 4x6 customer proofs.

I had thought about the Kodak, but heard or read somewhere that the Olympus produced a sharper print. Yes, the 7.64x10 format scared me at first. But in the (at least) 2 years I have had the P400, I haven't had a single complaint about the slightly smaller size. I have delivered thousands of images from the P400 too!

I also have th HiTi 4x6 printer. I don't use it too often...by coincedence, I used it tonight though. It's such a cute little thing! I was impressed with the quality of such an inexpensive little printer.

Another BIG plus to go with the the Kodak was their next day replacement if the printer took a dump. That is very important to me. Especialy now around the holidays. If the printer is down I would have to go to Wal Mart or someplace else to get my files (all digital studio) printed...and hope they come out right.

What sort of results do you guys get from dye sub printing when you print B&W ?

Despite many requests to Olympus and Kodak they seem very reluctant to send me B&W prints.

Regards

Nigel, :)

Not to try to change the thread but have any of you people that are using the P400 had any issues similar to the following?
I have an intermittent problem with my Fuji S2 and the Olympus p 400 printer. We shoot big events and preformat a big stack of CF cards ( sandisk 32 meg) About 25% or more of the time the Olympus says that there are no images on the card. The images can be read by the camera and computer and if moved to another card with the computer we can print them. I have written Fuji and Olympus and they both sent back what I consider pretty much form responses so far. HELP!!!!

Has anyone had any problems in this area? When you do, what can you do about it? I have an Epson 2200 and so far haven't encountered this problem although I have been told I will. Doesn't seem right to pay this much for a printer and then have clogged inkjets. :soapbox:

Hi everybody!
I am new to this forum, stumbled on it searching for help on the web. I received my p-440 last week and have yet to get normal color out of it. The instructions are very lacking in the manual regarding color spaces etc.

My main problem is the greens...or lack of them! They are weak and too blue. All other colors are normal. I have tried adjusting the driver, different profiles etc. I use PhotoShop CS and Fuji and Leica digital cameras.

Can anyone walk me through their settings in PS (color spaces) as well as those on the printer? I am frustrated..used 100 sheets so far!

Thanks for the help!
Jim
