Hi Gang,
I got this link from the former site, so I wanted to post it here:
http://www.adobe.com/store/products/special.jhtml?id=catMicrotek&sourcecode=112300
If you have a legal copy of PS Elements, you can buy PS CS for only $299.00 from Adobe (a $350 savings!). Seems to be a decent deal. BTW, I know the site says to use your PS Elements Serial Number included with a "Microtek" scanner, however, I just used the PS Elements S/N I got with my S2 Pro and it worked fine.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if this applies to Europe as well?

We (my wife) home school our kids and qualify for the educator discount. Picked up Photoshop CS for the same, 299.00 + tax. Also picked up DreamweaverMx 2004 for just over $100.00 + tax. Depending on where you shop on the net, some of the sites are very relaxed in thier criteria for who qualifies.

...as the "trick" only work for USA and Canada !
...I wish someone find a way -legal of course :o - to get CS at a "normal price... here in Switzerland, it'll cost us about US$920 -the english version that is... the french version is yet more expensive !!!-
Thanks in advance for any tip...

Ballroom boy - You got my hopes up and my plastic out, but the link you posted leads to a page at Adobe saying: "We're sorry! The page you were trying to view is no longer here. " The Adobe product purchase page for CS lists Elements as one of the programs that doesn't qualify to upgrade to CS.
Darn!

Clicking on your link, rather than copy and paste, did it.
Thanks ballroom boy

Wow! That's really good news! Thanks Ballroom Boy. I was planning to buy using an educational discount (at some undefined future date) but was concerned that it was not intended for use on images that will be sold.
The link worked for me. Now I just have to explain to my wife why I need another $300 photo accessory! Sounds easy right?

JPS - Are you looking for the English version or the French version? I suppose a legal way to do it is to come over here and buy the US English version. If you can't do that, a guy I work with lives in swiss land and is here for the week. Maybe you can work something out? :)

Thanks a lot for the offer... Yes I think the US english version would be better, as all the "ready-made" actions we can find are in english, and any HELP I would ask/find would also be at 99% in english, I'll be better off with an english language version...
...Now, HOW could we set this up ? I'm in Geneva, I don't know were this swiss guy is from -anyway, he could send it to me by post if he lives too far away- and... well, I suppose it's all in your hands, isnt'it ?
Please keep me informed...
All the best...

Yup. Let me talk to him today and see if he's not absent minded enough. He's a scientist who is very talented, but has social, issues sometimes. hehe.
I'm not sure where he lives, but I know he has a castle on a lake. I'll keep you posted.

(I hope I did this quote thing right.)
I bought the educational version of Photoshop CS for $274.00 on the advice of my instructor at the community college. According to him it is the full version and there are no restrictions as far as the images you create with it. The only restriction is you can't resale the software.
When I loaded the software is was the standard liscensing agreement. I didn't see any special provisions for the educational software.
My instructor says the company realizes students will eventually be using their software professionally but it's more of an advertising thing. The more students who use the software the more demand their will be in the future for upgrades and new products.

marymc,
Thanks for the info. I've heard conflicting stories on this. A while back there was a thread where people were discussing the legalities (and morality) of using photoshop obtained by various means. i.e. borrowed a disk vs. payed full price vs. student edition etc. Someone said that he had a student version that mentioned in the licensing agreement that it was limited to non professional use. Maybe he was using an older version... If I can spend $299 I'll probably lay down the extra $25 for the peace of mind that I got the commercial version. Of course I still have to talk my wife into it! :D :D :D

I just purchased CS using that link for 299.00 plus shipping and tax because I had a legal copy of Elements 2.0
This forum is fantastic. I have learned so much from all the wonderful people on this site. I hope to start contributing much more in the near future.
I am putting what I saved...over 300 bucks towards my next lens purchase.
Life is good...Tom

if you can, enroll in a college class. The photoshop 1 class here can be done online. Then you can get the student discount. I got the whole cs suite for like $350 from ccvsoftware.com .
Of course, don't be using it for pro stuff without upgrading it properly. The class helped too, but then I'm more a newbie than most here to photoshop.
