Once a year, several artists get together at a set location in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Most are painters, but they've now included a few photographers. (Me)
We spend the whole day together, usually on a host ranch, roaming at will to find interesting items to either paint or photograph. It's an overnighter (the guys leave after dinner) and we share our work. This is one image.

While others were out in the fields or looking for barns, I put found things together.

cute kittens Linda,
that event sounds like a real hoot,
I nearly made it to teach at the Photographic Workshops in Mayne
a couple of years ago, that would be an awesome experince...

Very nice Linda. I'm sure your work was very popular. The kittens look so curious but eager to "pose".

Nice shots Linda.
The old stuff in the photos is appropriate for the B&W.

Thank you all for the comments. I love old things in b&w, but that rust looks pretty good in color, too.
The painters take photos to take home to paint. They like high contrast images and harsh shadows don't bother them. A photograph is a means to an end for them, not the end as it is for us.
I showed them how I paint on the computer and they tried not to turn their noses up, but I could tell they were having trouble accepting that. I still get a lot out of the weekend and have lots of fun! It also has taught me to 'see' through other eyes.
I also ran into some resentment when one lamented they were rarely allowed to sell printes of their paintings yet photographers just had to print it again. Ah, such is life! (and I like mine!)
Attached is someone who likes hers. It was a very rainy day!

We lived in Kansas from 1971 until mid-1980, and I remember being surprised at how pretty the prairie grasses could be in the autumn.
If you have any shots that capture the subtle hues of the grasses as they change color in the fall, could you post them (in the color section, of course)?

Linda,
I like the third picture you posted. It has a bit of "dark" message but poignant still in such it evokes frailty of life.
You've got a verry good eye for photography subjects...
Cheers!

Thank you all for the comments. I will look to see about the grasses...I do have wheat and plenty of prairie grasses but not so sure about October/November. I go out to the Flint Hills in the spring and early fall, but get caught up in other things in the later, colorful fall and summer is way too hot! Mirage water hot!
