Hi folks, maybe someone could help me with this one.

I am using a G3 Powerbook (OS9.2.1) with the S2. This computer is one of the earlier models without built in firewire ports. I have a Firewire Cardbus, that fits into the PCMCIA card slot (Ratoc CBFW2). In the past 3 years that I have had this setup I have used other firewire devices (including cameras) without problem. But the S2 doesn't want to communicate this way - the camera shooting software gives the error message; "Camera not connected". The manual says that "this software is not guaranteed to run when used via an IEEE 1395 (firewire) hub or with an added IEEE 1394 port."

While I can always download using USB (frightfully slow because the G3 is USB1.1) and using a card reader in the PCMCIA slot, I must admit that I miss the highspeed of Firewire and the ability to use the camera shooting software.

Aside from buying a new computer (next year), is there a possible way to make this work?

Many thanks,
Lightwrangler, aka Adrian

PS. I have reread Tom's posting on his similar problems .... I was wondering if there was any updates or fixes that people have seen.

Thought I would update the previous message. The answer to the problem with the fire-wire was simple - change the cable. Just goes to support the "weakest link" theory. Now the camera and the computer are talking to each other. On a side note, I did end up upgrading the PC card so that I could use a 48 speed CD burner, which the Ratoc card wasn't able to support.

Thought you'd like to know.
