Ok. The old database is up! too bad guys. On another server. Hahah. Ok. Shoot me. Bad joke. but it's up and all the data is there.

The lucky winner of the last poster to post before the crash:
12-08-2003 10:53 PM by jweisskohl!

And the old numbers from right before the crash:
Members: 1,320, Threads: 2,962, Posts: 20,363

So. What does all this mean? This means, uhm. I don't know. We're working on it very hard at the moment, or at least BJ is working on it. But, at least we know the info is all there and working.

I don't know what's going to happen with the user accounts here at this moment. They may be all right, they may be reset to the old numbers and passwords/information or they may be the same numbers/info/passwords as they currently are right here and now. We'll see.

More as it comes in. Please keep this one clean by not posting in it.

Thanks!

Ok. Here's the scoop. We'll be taking the forum down late tonight to restore the old database. You will not be able to log in of course and you may even get a page not found. Not to worry. It will be back up soon.

We expect the melding of the databases to take no longer than 2 hours.

We expect to regain every user from the old database, so if you're new to the site just this week, you'll have to register one more time. What this means is that if you have a different password on the old database, you'll have to re-log back in (not re-register).

Message counters should reflect your old post count plus your new post count.

We expect to get everything back the way it was right before the crash, plus the addition of the new posts over the past week.

Again, if you haven't had an account with us on the old database, you'll need to re-register.

Of course, for most people. I'm typing this in vain. I'll still get flooded with emails asking what's going on............

Make sure you read these announcments. They're important to what is going on here and I will not always be so quick to answer emails with questions about what's going on with the board.......

The next post here should be a status on how everything went right and the whole new combined database being perfect. Right. :)

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconveniences of the board being down! Oh yeah, and Happy Holidays again.

So does this mean it's jweisskohl's fault since he/she was the last poster on the forum on 12-08-2003 10:53 PM before the crash?

I knew it, that sorry *#@$&%**@!

Just kidding jweisskohl.

Black Jack, Swampy,

I have noticed a lot of pictures loading in the garbled fashion. For example, http://theswampbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=23019 has gibberish for pictures, and other threads have presented goofed up pictures. The images display as all stripes and bands, chunks of noise and streaks. Most of the avatars still show up fine in those threads (some are missing [X] and just might be missing or down.

Still, it is worth drinking to.

See. I told people in the announcements that I don't know why we do them. Only a small percentage of people read them.

Tom - BAD TOM!

We knew about the images. You shouldn't find any garbled images other than during the week long period that the board has been up after the crash. Everything before the crash should show up fine. If you find bunch from before the crash, let me know. There's a message in the announcment at the top of every forum explaining this and what the users need to do (re-upload thier pictures - which aren't very many.

There was only one script that we could find that would bring both databases back together and this is the end result. We were lucky to find that script, otherwise we would have had to make a decision on whether to keep the old or the new only.

Thanks Shawn!
