This gal was watching the 'wire saw' as it sliced through a slab of marble that will become a life size statue of President George Bush, Sr for his Presidential Library in Texas. I'm saving the shot of the marble for later.

Thanks, Brian

There is so little color, almost void really, in that part of the quarry that it looks like black and grey to the naked eye. It's also tricky with the mixed lighting. I'll make some color shots Monday and show you what I mean. Forgotten what?;) I'm still waiting for the snow to hit here in the lower elevations (a little over a mile high). By the way, I like the cemetery shot with the markers leaning every which way. How would that look with some snow on the markers? Nice to hear from you again!:cheers:

Thanks, Igor

Nice to hear from you too!

Nice shot. The explanation is good, since it's tough to put it in context otherwise.

I'd like to see more of the operation, to keep it all together. Is this part of a series for an annual report or something?

Brian,
did it start snowing during the last hours ? We´ve got a strongwind-forcast with gusts of 90 mph here in the harz-mountains and a very good forcast for a white christmas ....

@Sleeping Bear
Go on with your quarry-shots. I love anything related to quarries and mines.

I am fortunate to have been chosen as the project photographer for The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier Project at the Yule Marble Quarry in Marble, Colorado, USA. The original Tomb in Arlington is damaged and needs to be replaced. I have the exclusive rights to shoot the project and am documenting the entire process. A record of the shots will go to the National Archives (here in the States), Arlington National Cemetery, etc. I have also put together a small booklet that documents the progress to date with more to follow. It has been, and continues to be, an honor as well as a humbling exp. to document the search for something that will become sacred for millions.

As soon as I get my website up, the book will be available there. I'll post it in the General forum when I get it up and running, which should be tomorrow evening. www.ronbaileyphotography.com

That shot and the quarry in general implies a lot of dust. Do you have your camera in a protective bag of sorts?

Just wondering.

BTW that is a great shot. I enjoy candids like yours the best.

Thanks, Don

A bag would be too cumbersome for me. I bring a fresh pillow case and throw it over the camera when not taking shots. I suppose I could go for some type of pre-fab cover, but the pillow case works for me. I always leave the uv filter on and have three of them with me in order to change througout the day, since the dust does love the lens/filter. I take the camera outside of the quarry and into my vehicle to even change the uv filer. Somedays the marble dust and diesel smoke are heavy.
