I do not have studio lights and use different kinds of flash, built in, on camera or with my flash bracket. I don't like small dots for catchlights so have made my own method of getting them in photoshop.

Fill in the white dot. Make a new, blank layer. Choose paint brush on multiply, opacity 5%, white. Use the file attached to add to your brush collection by loading it into photoshop, going to edit, define brush and naming it whatever you want.

You can make it smaller or larger by using the bracket keys and make it harder edged or softer by using the shift key and bracket keys.

Play around and see what you like, erasing it if you don't like it and trying again.

It doesn't work as well if you work on the same layer, gets too harsh. It's a cheater's way of getting studio light catchlights!
