Anyone know of a download of a Macbeth Colour Chart to more accurately guage colours on images that are being worked on in Photoshop?

Sometimes when taking pics under fluorescent lighting the pics I have taken all move towards an orange/yellow/ or green cast. I would like to know what the colours should have been and was hoping that by placing a Macbeth Colour Chart in the scene then I might more accurately end up with better renditions of colour.

Paul,

We have one at work that came with the EyeOne color management system. It's a highly guarded piece of equipment because of it's replacement value. Not sure you'd be able to find one online unless an owner were to scan or photograph it in and post it. Then you run the risk of their monitor's values, etc, etc.

Good luck and I think you're on the right track. Are you using custom white balance when shooting in flourescent lights? Sounds like what I used to get when I used a flourescent filter that was supposed to counteract the green but instead would go too far the other way.

Linda, I have only been using auto white balance up until now and with a few tweaks in Photoshop have gotten the colours back to where I thought they should be. I just assumed there should/would be a better setup for my camera that would render the colours that I am looking for straight out of the camera before hitting Photoshop. Having a tough enough time finding a white/gray/black card at the local photo stores.

Pauly,
I made up a bank of fluoros for copying pics. I use custom white balance and always include a small piece of white and black cards in the shot to give me a reference point in PS. Most of the time it works, but for some reason some paintings won't co-operate.

This will take you to a site that provides an on screen chart you can use to compare to the Gretag chart. This can be used as a guide, and is really made to use in conjunction with the paper target from Gretag. You can use it by itself if you choose to.

Hope this helps.
