Still learning how to attach two images to a single post.

Here is the original...

Just wondering what processing was actually done. Did you do auto levels in elements? I don't use either of these programs so I don't know what's available. It just looks to me like the Kodak processed image benefited from an auto levels type of enhancement.

Nice shot by the way, would make a nice Christmas card.

Adobe Elements has an auto levels. The Kodak Digital ROC is a "plug-in" that works with Adobe PS and Elements. It is not a stand-alone program. Kodak Digital ROC provides a much better auto adjustment than the auto levels in Elements. When you call the K ROC plug in, it provides a recommended change and has slider bars for customization. There are two other Kodak plug-ins, one GEM is a sharpening/softening tool and Digital SHO which lightens darker portions on the image via histogram optimization. ROC is most helpful of the three.

See http://www.asf.com/ for the Kodak pages with free full featured downloads. BE CAREFUL with the trial version as it water marks the image. DO NOT SAVE images modified with the trial version OVER YOUR ORIGINAL.

James,

Which one do you prefere?
I like the original one best.

(By the way, that shot REALLY reminds me of my grandmother's house. You don't live in Akron, do you?)

Scott,

The votes are about equal - some like the blue tone of the original and some like the Kodak ROC version. I like the blue cast.

No, I do not live in Akron, but nearby in Cleveland area. This was taken Dec 6 at 10AM - my front yard.

Interesting results. We have all the Applied Science plug ins at work, but rarely use them. I would like to see a midway on these. The original is a little too dark yet the 'fixed' one is too yellow. What is it they say about yellow snow?

Linda,

Just learning about USM so in addition to toning down the yellow, ran USM a little...

I like it better, but it still seems a bit on the yellow side. Usually, snow photographs on the blue side. Of course, the warmer color would show a bit more in a late day, low sun type of shoot.

Linda,

By now you are tired of seeing the same pic and providing seeing eyes to an obviously color-challenged/blind guy.

Here is a try with Elements using auto levels and auto contrast only, no Kodak ROC. By the way, I use Kodak ROC for older scanned prints that have yellowed or become nealry all blue cast. Here it seems to not work so well with S2 images.

Thanks for your help.

Jim

By the way, I do have other images of my yard. Here is another.

Unexpected results from Kodak ROC - Rather than yellow cast, this one gets a really saturated red and blue tone. Original follows.
