I am wanting to shoot from my S2 directly through firewire to my computer where I have an image capture & match program for my school photography. I can capture images with a sm card and download into this software but seem unable to go directly from shooting to pc. I have purchased this camera in Australia where Finepix viewer software was included. Do I need the hyper-utility software I have heard about as well to shoot directly? The other people with this program shoot directly from D1's with no problem.
Please help!!

if you shoot raws then you need full or le version of converter. le comes with finepix wiever, but full is the hyper-utility and shooting together

Deb,
the shooting software is brilliant ideal for social photography, however if you are using the display mode to show your images on say a laptop via firewire, you can only shoot 7 frames before transferring the files to the laptops hard drive, basically your using the buffer on the s2 as a temporary file. If you are shooting school pics you would need dump the file onto your HDD.
You can just shoot straight to the HDD without viewing them but I think it takes the fun out of things.
I use it in my studio to show clients they love the instant feedback, it gives them especially with family groups. It really does keep the kids happy.
The only sore point about the software is that in the UK you have to buy it, at around £149. Why is it the states get it for free.
Best regards
Nick

I don't understand Fuji's logic (an oxymoron) in not supplying the same things with each S2 regardless of where the user resides.
Pretty stupid and has P.O.'s a lot of users.

One of the big issues when buyinh photo equipment is the warranty, and more specifically, WHERE to send it for repairs. You can buy the same S2 (or other stuff) two ways... USA version (where you can send it to a USA repair center), and "Gray Market" (where the unit was intended for sale outside the USA and to be fixed there as well). In the US, if you buy the USA version, you get the hyper utility, AC adpater and poss. some other accessories, but you pay $1400-$1500 (USD). All this just to be able to send it to someone in the US for repairs. The "Gray Market" does not have the hyper utility and some accessories, but "only" pay $1200-$1300 (USD) for the camera. If you are in the US, you have to send it to another country for repairs. Shipping, turn around etc is very expensive. I asked a New York dealer whether thier S2's were "Gray Market" because their prices were a bit lower than others. The salesman stuttered and said, "What market did you want?" When I said I wanted a USA version with this specific software and accessories, the price went up $300. The fact is those dealers make a little profit on selling USA models in the US but make a great profit selling the "Gray Market" stuff in the US. I hope this explains everything. It's a goofy world (in and out of the US).

Where are you shopping, Roadking? The prices I see from most reliable internet dealers in the US for US-spec cameras with full accessory sets are much more than your highest marks. Most still charge around retail 2300 for the S2, some I have seen I think at 2200.

I agree with his analysis of the current photographic market. There are also some dealers that will not sell the S2 without the extended warrenty and a 128 MB CF card with a cute little cleaning cloth thrown in. They call it their digital accesory kit. The price then goes up to about $2700. But if the thing breaks down during the next 3 years they will exchange it with an off the shelf new camera or provide an on the spot loaner so to minimize your down time. Sometimes these things are worth it and sometimes not. Generally if you camera breaks down then they were worth it, but if your camera does not break down they were not worth it.

So sorry...been spending too much money these days. My S2 (USA model with full factory accessories, warranty, and hyper utility was) $2295 last week. If memory serves me, the New York guys wanted $2100 for the grey market and $2500 for the USA version (which they didn't have in stock). Here's $1000. Kindly add it to all my figures in the original post.
To Wayne (kindly looking guy with a proper beard). That was exactly my dilemma...buy cheap and hope for the best or buy high and have a recourse. Since I had a focus issue and had to return it for testing, I GUESS I did the right thing this time. Buyer beware, huh?

I might pay a little more but I have a local dealer that will go to bat for me if anything is wrong. Local to me means going to Wolfes in Topeka. A three hour drive but they know me and remember how much I purchase from them. They also do not insult my intellegence with dummys behind the counter. There sales staff knows their business or they will get somebody there that does to take over. In my book Wolfes is worth the extra that I pay for their equipment.

I can only see the shooting software for Mac. Am I missing something, or is there none for Windows able to be downloaded?
Thanks

I don't know. IMHO Fuji has made a big botch of the whole scheme of the way they do things regarding supply and support of the S2 software.
The UK web site is wholly different than the US one.
It doesn't make any sense to me.

That's right, shooting software for Mac only is available to download from the UK website, but here the Hyper Utilities is not supplied with the camera, it is 129GBP!
