Healing brush.clone tool

Hi, "Newbie" here to the forum. I'm unable to access the clone tool, healing brush etc but other tools are OK - what obvious trick am I missing ?

Select one of the tools and then hold the ALT key down when click somewhere in your image to select the source point.
