I have two other posts in this forum, summarized as follows.

* I bought a used S2 that turned out to have been bought originally in Canada
* I ordered an adapter from B&H that had an "advertised" number that matched the number specified in the manual
* The adapter from B&H wasn't correct, so I called Fuji

So, I sent the following to Fuji -

Copy of the receipt of the original sale to the fellow I bought it from
Copy of the bill of sale from when I bought it from the original purchaser

What Fuji told me was that adpaters for non-US cameras cost roughly $300. The wrinkle is that my camera was one of the ones that had the ERR message, and I was given a new camera in place of the one I bought. I originally called Fuji several months ago, explained the provenace of the camera and asked if I should return it to Fuji-Canada or Fuji-USA. They said to send it to New Jersey. The replacement camera was for ... a US camera.

So, after examining the documents I sent to Fuji, I paid the US price - $65. The adpater arrived today, so I'll be cleaning the CCD after I get some PEC pads and methanol!!

My camera also didn't come with the Hyper Utility program which I understand is required to work with RAW files, so I bought that, too.

So, that's the end of the saga. I think the documentation I faxed them convinced them that I didn't knowingly buy a gray market camera, so they approved the US adapter price.

I was stunned by the Fuji US price of $300+ for an AC Adapter from a Fuji US dealer. I called a Canadian Fuji dealer and bought the adapter for about $70.

My camera was a Canadian model, bought over ebay in August of 2002.

Especially when you can get a 5V generic adapter from eBay (or a AC converter dealer) for $20.

There is no magic to the Fuji transformer.

ADDED LATER: Sorry I found all the old posts on this subject. I thought messages were scrolling off the bottom of the list, but I found they are archived. I think the old posts answer my question.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE

I just got an S2 that was originally made for sale in Canada. I'm in the US. I saw in a message below that Fuji would tell me I need to buy a Fuji AC adapter for some outrageous sum.

Unless I'm missing something the electronics of a Canadian AC adapter wouldn't be any different than a US adapter. We do share the same AC power specs, don't we?

So shouldn't any old adapter with the right specs work?

I can get one from Adorama for $25.

I'd kind of hate to fry my new camera....
