Ok, sort of like a lens test - I'm trying something out here. Maybe this will take off, maybe not. Who knows. Anyway, people have been asking me to post a picture of a picture I printed when I got it hung. After a year with my S2 and 11,000 frames, I have finally printed and hung my first picture from the camera.

I printed it out on an Epson Stylus Pro 7600 UltraChrome on canvas. This 12mp JPG was printed at it's full frame after modifying it in PS a bit and upping the DPI to 200 at 24x36 (which came out to 23 7/8x35 for some reason.

A friend of the wife's came over last night for a visit and it was the first thing she noticed coming through the door and she thought we bought it and compared it to a famous painter. :)

Anyway, here's four shots of it, including a close up of it so you can see the quaility of the print sorta. Hard to take a picture of a picture sometimes. :)

I'm still playing with the lighting and The wife is also going to put a small gold cord around the inside of the frame to cover up a little bit of the white canvas that's showing on two edges.

I'm very happy with the print quailty from this printer, even closer up being on material.

Good Work :) I bet Connie is now going to view your pictures with a new perspective, or she's going to be putting in requests for types.

Fantastic quality. Did you have it sprayed and is it behind glass?

Thanks! I haven't sprayed it yet. But am planning on finding a spray to use and it's not behind glass. I wanted to have a little but of a "painting" touch to it and I think putting it behind glass would ruin it. Now I remember who Connie's friend was saying though did the picture - Thomas Kinkaid. Nice compliment, but not very close. I bet if I take your tutorial Linda, that I can make it look like one though. :) I'd have to get Painter though first. haha.

Gawd, I've been warned about doing buildings and architectural images...all those straight lines!

And yes, I think it's Thomas Kincaid who is called the 'painter of light' since his images have lights painted into them, making the bulbs, fixtures and glow an integral part of the picture instead of just 'using' the light.

A beautiful print, Brian. Soon we will be seeing your giclee's in galleries up and down the west coast. Well done.

Swampy,

How much is the canvas and does it come on roll. I been looking to print some of my stuff as fine art and some I would likt to put on canvas. I've been looking at the 7600, but will wait till the 4000 is out and tested.

Great work. My wife hung up 3 frames in the living room and told me to fill them. I need to shoot something that match the rest of the room, like the colors. Three frames saying 20-x16 doesn't look to good :)

Yes, the Canvas comes on a roll. I'm not sure but I think it's at least 50 foot long. I don't know the price of it, but I believe the owner of the printer was talking like $1.50 a square foot. VERY reasonable, at least until you get to the ink cost. :) Again, I don't know about that, but that would be easily looked up on the web just finding out how much each of the 7 inks cost.

I'm real happy with the quality of this 7600. My only wish is that it was a little wider. Printing this at 24x36 - no room left for stretching it over a frame without losing some of the picture. There was only about 3/16 inch (4mm?) on either side left to play around with, so I had to glue this one to a foam board to mount it.

Swampy,

I've heard tell that color calibrations on that printer are pretty difficult. Did you have to do many tests to get it right? I know you said a friend has that printer, did he have much trouble with the initail set up?

Swampy.. any idea on how cost/print calculates out? I did a little digging today and it looks like the inks (from B&H) run ~$70/ea. They hold 110mL of ink, though I have no idea how far that would stretch. The print quality on canvas is quite amazing and would love to have some time with one.

I think that picture would have been around 12-15 bucks to print including the cost for the canvas and ink. That was a rough estimate from the owner. The ink level meter didn't even budge one notch on any of the colors, including the black when I printed that and an 8x10 and a 12x24 print. So they stretch pretty far. I've seen people on the web charging 100-150 bucks per 24x36" print as well.
