I was asked to post this question.....

Shawn

--

I recently purchased a S2 with the understanding that it would be compatible with my Nikon lenses, which are all manual focus, and factory AI or converted AI Nikor lenses. I don't expect autofocus from such a lens, however, dispite what the owner's manual says, I cannot get these lenses to give an exposure reading.

Has anybody else had similar experiences?
Has anybody found a solution to the situation?

On page 19 of the owners manual I believe that it says that the "camera's meter cannot be used". You set the camera's shutterspeed with the rear knob and the f-stop with the lens aperture ring. But you must determine the correct exposure by either an external meter or "sunny-16" rules. Unless you have light meter eyes like my wife.

There is this guy (Roland Elliott) that provides a service of installing the matrix chip in older MF and Zoom lenses so they will meter properly. He adds the circuit card so these older lenses will return a proper wide-open aperture so that the camera will work with them.

This link describes the process, or he can do it. It's something like $80 per lens, and there is a list of lenses that can be upgraded in the FAQ section.
