Taken of my granddaughter and her daddy shortly after I got the S2. Feel free to play with it...would love to see what someone can do.

Here's a simple levels and curve adjustment with just a touch of sharpening. Didn't want to overly sharpen such a warm moment.
I thought about lightening the offending nipple (a little distracting) but then again....we all have at least two. And a crop above killed the nice hand gesture.
Its a wonderful pic and I'm sure you're a very proud granddaddy! Congratulations.

Lightwrangler,
BTW,
congrats being a grandfather now. Your granddaughter looks very very young to me. Approx 4-8 weeks ?

Hi..thanks for the comments. I like what the sharpening did. I knew the nipple was a distraction, but like you I couldn't crop without losing "something". BTW...I'm GrandMa...lol
At the time Emilee was about 4 weeks old.

Whoops too
(Sorry for that ) But congrats anyway !
The shots of my children from 1st minute ´till 5th year were ´pre´-(D)SLR. Not worth a post  Love my S2, love the impressing photos of your grandchild !
Maybe, she will have fun with the S897 in 15 years

Thanks again guys...I hope I'll be able to afford to buy her her first S????? in 15 years.
It took a long time for me to post anything...I was a little intimidated by everyone at first. You all are so much more experienced than I am with digital and editing. Then I thought, what the heck...what better way to learn than by posting whatever and getting it critiqued by the experts. I can't begin to say how much I've learned from this forum and I find myself reading the posts much more than I do anything else on the puter(I need a life). I just recently learned from someone at this forum that I can still use my manual 500mm with the S2..all this time it was sitting in the bag presumably useless. I'm a lot more motivated to get outside even in the yard and just take pix. So be prepared!!!

Yes, everyone has two, unless they've met up with an unfortunate accident (I've been listening to too many stand up comedians!) but even if it wasn't a nipple, it was detracting from the image. There are other ways to minimize something besides cropping it out. :)
I used the magic wand to select the lightest part of Dad's chest and after a feather of about 3 pixels, I used the burn tool to darken the area. I would have to go in to clean up the baby's arm, but here's a quick idea.

Lightwriter,
Hooray for your granddaughter!
I worked in levels by sliding the right triangle to the left to the first significant pile of pixels, then went to curves and bumped up the midtones a little for a slightly high-key look. Two hits with the dodge tool supressed your mammary gland outlet. I sharpened it a bit with 100%, 1 rad, 10 threshold (so I would not emphasize skin detail nearly as much as hard lines such as hair and fingers).;)

I like what everyone is doing with this. I went back into CS and cropped it to this:

I experimented with about the same crop only I took off more of your son's (in law's?) hairline to tighten it up even more.
Why are you staying with the dark image? You like Silver prints?

I just went in quickly and cropped it...didn't mess with anything else. I actually kinda like the darker tones to it though, although I really like what everyone has done to brighten it up.
PS..it's my son

I only took that in B&W...I took a couple pix of Jeremy and Emilee in color, but i like the b/w better.
I'll see if I can find something to post for an avatar. It will probably be fictional so I don't scare anyone.

this is the wrong category for this pic, but wanted to keep it in this thread. I don't care for this as much as the B/W.

Hi, beautiful feel in this photo,
I found a straight levels adjustment to be too harsh, I duped the layers, changed to screen mode at about 30% layer opacity. Did some selective lightening and darkening and a slight curves adjustment. Then cropped both sides, I like the way dads haircut mimics the babys...

Roger...I really love what you did with that...beautiful job...wish I'd have seen that before I made a 20X24 for them for Christmas.
I teased my son about their hair styles being the same.

Cropped a little tighter, quickmask on baby, G. Blur on rest, removed background over shoulder, added slight toning, level adjustment, yada, yada, yada.
Great shot anyway!
